5. GAME DESCRIPTION

  • Regional Qualifiers: Players will begin the Tournament by participating in Regional Qualifier Rounds. There will be eight (8) Regional Qualifier rounds held on the dates indicated in the table below.  There will be separate concurrent Regional Qualifiers for four (4) geographic regions.  Players may choose which Regional Qualifier Round to participate in, and will be notified through the UNO! App once they are admitted.

Each Regional Qualifier Round will run for seven (7) days, and will begin at 00:00 UTC the first day of the applicable period and end at 23:59 UTC on the last day of the applicable period. Players who have completed their registration for the Tournament may start playing in the Regional Qualifier immediately at the start of the Regional Qualifier Round that they chose.

The first five (5) Classic-Single Mode games a player plays in the UNO! App on each day during the 7-day Regional Qualifier Round period will count towards their score for purposes of qualifying for the Quarter Finals. Players will be randomly matched in groups of four (4) players in each Classic-Single Mode game. Players may qualify to have up to an additional five (5) games per day (for a total of up to ten (10) games per day) count towards their score for purposes of qualifying for the Quarter Finals by completing specific tasks within the UNO! App (e.g. playing certain mini-games within the App).  Players may play additional games within the UNO! App on a given day, but these games will not count towards the player’s qualifying score.  Players must play a minimum of ten (10) games over the course of the 7-day Regional Qualifier Round to be considered for advancing to the Quarter Finals.

A player will receive a score after each game based on the cards left in the player’s hand at the end of the game (the “Individual Game Score”).  In the Regional Qualifier Rounds, the first and second place players in the game will receive positive scores based on the cards left in their hand at the end of the game and the third and fourth place players in the game will receive negative scores based on the cards left in their hand at the end of the game.  See the attached Addendum for information on Scoring Rules in the Regional Qualifiers Rounds.  At the end of each Regional Qualifier Round, all players participating in the Round will be ranked based on their total combined for the ten (10) best games (i.e., games with the highest score) played over the course of the 7-day Round.  The sixteen (16) players from each of four regions (Asia-Pacific, North America, South America and Europe/Middle East/Africa) with the best total combined score from their 10 best games (i.e. the highest total score from their 10 best games) in each Regional Qualifier will advance to the Quarter Finals.  The winners of the Regional Qualifier Rounds who advance to the Quarter Finals are the “Quarter Finalists”. There will be a total of 512 Quarter Finalists (16 for each of 4 regions for each of 8 Regional Qualifier Rounds).

  • Double Elimination Tournament Mechanism.  The Quarter Finals and Finals of the Tournament will be played using a ‘double elimination’ mechanism.  The mechanism generally works as follows:  Players will initially be randomly matched in groups of four (4), and each player in a group will play a total of three (3) matches (except in the final phase of the Round, where five (5) matches will be played).  The two players with the lowest Total Games Score across all three (3) matches will be considered the winner of the group.  The winners of each group will go on to play a round against the winners of another group, while the losers of each group will go on to play a round against the losers of another group.  A player who is among the losers of two consecutive group will be eliminated from the Tournament. Please note that the Scoring Rules in the Quarter Finals and Finals are quite different with Scoring Rules in the Regional Qualifiers Rounds, where in the Quarter Finals and Finals, all players’ scores are positive or 0.  See the attached Addendum for information on Scoring Rules in the Quarter Finals and Finals.

  • Quarter Finals: A total of one hundred and twenty eight (128) players (the players advancing from the two preceding Regional Qualifier Rounds) will play in each Quarter Final.  The 128 players will be divided into two groups of sixty four (64) players each, and each 64-player group will compete using a ‘double elimination’ mechanism as described above, until the field is reduced to four (4) remaining players from each 64-player subgroup.  These four (4) remaining players will play a final round, and the two winners of this final round will advance to the Finals. The Quarter Finals will take place over on the days set forth in the table below.    The sixteen (16) players that are the winners of the last round of each Quarter Final (i.e. a total of 64 players) will advance to the Finals. The winners of the Quarter Finals who advance to the Finals are the “Finalists”.

The ranking of the four (4) remaining Finalists of the Tournament will be based on lowest Total Game Score to highest Total Game Score amongst the four (4) remaining Finalists in the final round of the Finals (i.e. the player with the lowest Total Game Score in that Round will be the winner of the tournament, the player with the second lowest Total Game Score will be the first runner-up, etc.).

In the event that a potential winner is disqualified for any reason, the individual with the next lowest Total Game Score from the last round(s) of the Finals will be selected as the potential winner.  Sponsor may limit the number of attempts to award a prize to two (2) attempts to contact the applicable players.  In such case, if a prize winner cannot be confirmed after two (2) attempts, Sponsor will determine in its sole discretion whether the prize will remain unawarded.

ADDENDUM

SCORING RULES

  • Scoring Rules in the Regional Qualifiers Rounds

Basically, there are three types of cards in the Classic-Single Mode game, namely the Number Card, the Action Card, the Wild and Wild+4 Card:

The scores accredited to each type of card are as follows:

  • For the Number Card, the score equals the face number;

  • For the Action Card, each card equals 20 scores;

  • For the Wild and Wild+4 Card, each card equals 50 scores.

At the end of each game, a raw score is calculated as the sum of the cards’ scores left in the player’s hand (“Raw Score”). For instance, if the following cards are left when a game is over, such player’s Raw Score would be -99. Here we make it negative so that the higher score, the higher ranking.

However, we will adjust the Individual Game Score based on your Raw Score and ranking accordingly. Below please find a summary of how the Individual Game Score is calculated:

Step 1: calculate the Raw Score based on the cards left in your hand as aforementioned.

Step 2:  determine the ranking thereof, namely, the higher the Raw Score is, the higher the ranking will be.

For example:
First place player:  -5 scores  (one Red 5 Card left)
Second place player:  -9 scores (one Yellow 9 Card left)
Third place player:  - 58 scores (one Wild Card and one Red 8 Card left)

Fourth place player:  -100 scores (two Wild Cards left)

step 3:  for the third and fourth place players, the Individual Game Score will be determined as follows.

For third place player: Min(0-C,-40)

For fourth place player: Min(0-D,-60)

Step 4: for the first and second place players, they will receive the absolute value of the combined Raw Scores of the third and fourth place player (“Reward Score”).  The allocation of such Reward Score amongst the first and second place player will be determined as follows:

For first place player: LOST/2+Min (max (20,1.5  (B-A)),0.25max (C+D−2A,100))

For second place player: LOST/2−Min (max (20,1.5 (B-A)),0.25max (C+D−2A,100))

Index:

LOST: the absolute value of the combined Raw Scores of the third and fourth place player.

A: absolute value of the first place player’s Raw Score.

B: absolute value of the second place player’s Raw Score.
C: absolute value of the third place player’s Raw Score.
D: absolute value of the fourth place player’s Raw Score.

Step 5: at the present case, the Individual Game Scores for those 4 players are:

First place player:  99 scores

Second place player:  59 scores

Third place player: -58 scores

Fourth place player: -100 scores

In conclusion, the first and second place player in each Classic-Single Mode game will gain positive scores as their Individual Game Scores; whereas the third and fourth place player will gain negative scores as their Individual Game Scores which remain the same as their Raw Scores.

  • Scoring rules in the Quarter Finals and Finals

Plain and simple, in the Quarter Finals and Finals, we just add up the scores based on the cards left on players’ hands at the end of each game, which are all positive, with an exception that the first place player might be 0 score because he plays out all the cards.

An example would be like the following if a game runs out the time and no one plays out all the cards:

No.1 player: 5 scores (one Red 5 Card left)

No.2 player: 9 scores (one Yellow 9 Card left)

No.3 player: 58 scores (one Wild Card and one Red 8 Card left)

No.4 player: 100 scores (two Wild Cards left)
